"I am not a Preacher"

For the last week I have been living in Machakos, Kenya at Scott Theological College. I am here with about 30 other "new missionaries". They are teaching us the culture and, basically, how to live in Kenya. At first I was not looking forward to this because, as many of you know, I grew up for a good portion of my life in Kenya. I am happy to report that I am enjoying myself here at the college. I enjoy getting to know all of the other people here. They are all really nice!

Today the group broke apart into small groups and visited different schools, churches, etc... I got to go to a private school with 4 other missionaries and a few students from the college here. I went alone to the secondary (grades 9-12) worship service. Imagine my surprise when I got in there and found out that only students in the secondary school were girls. Yikes! They asked me to preach for 20-30 minutes. I was way out of my comfort zone but they would not let me refuse. I talked about Romans 12 and, I think that they got some of my points. My major point was asking them what defines them. Was it their tribe? Was it their school? Was it their country? Or was it Christ who defined them. I think the message got across. The Theological students said I did a really good job and that I should become a preacher. I know they were just trying to be nice because I know I am not a preacher. I must now run off to lunch. I hear they are serving potatoes! MMMMM!!!

Best regards,

RYAN

Wow, I didn't know you had to preach! Sounds like a good message you chose.

I hope you are now ready for life in Kenya!
